Sprenger Max Control D-ring Snaffle with lockup is a double jointed bit with a locking action which is used as a correction or training bit which locks at a certain angle and thus becomes a straight bar.
The bit sits very comfortably in the horses mouth when the horse is working properly. When the horse opposes the riders hands resulting in excess pressure on the contact with the riders hands the more intensive straight bar action of the bit comes in to play automatically, which transfers pressure directly onto the tongue area at the point of lock up. This has the effect of reinforcing strongly the riders instructions and when the horse complies the locking action ceases and the horse is rewarded by the immediate reduction in pressure over the tongue area which has an important association for the horses understanding that being compliant is far more comfortable.
