NEUE SCHULE STARTER LOOSE RING BIT – 14MM
The Starter loose ring snaffle bit is great for starting young horses and is designed to bring the riders rein contact onto the bars and lips of the horses mouth a little earlier than the tongue. Traditional snaffle action has a nutcracker action closing on the mouth from the joint and so this happens with a pinching effect on the bars of the mouth which is sometimes evidenced by the horse opening the mouth to find room for the tongue. The starter bit does not let this happen due to the centre lozenge breaking any nut cracker effect and the bits profiled design which wraps around the mouth slightly.
In a young horse any tongue restriction is the first noticeable objection that the horse has with a traditional snaffle if the bits pressure is all over the tongue area and the bars and lips find contact a little later when the reins are taken up.Â
The starter bit alleviates this situation and promotes acceptance and confidence in the contact. When starting a horse we should be looking for a quite mouth that evidences a relaxed acceptance as opposed to a constant fiddling with the bit, and so giving the tongue room under the contact by a level of ergonomic bit design that sits more comfortably in the horses mouth is a large part of encouraging a quieter mouth and a more relaxed acceptance.Â
A gentle bit that encourages the horse to stretch the top line forwards and down into a soft consistent contact.
- Neue Schule bits are made with Neue Schule Salox® Gold which is a high copper alloy used for its high thermal conductivity and anti-tarnishing properties; Salox® Gold quickly reaches body temperature and so encourages relaxation and acceptance of the bit.
