Heavy duty clippers are suitable for professional users or those that have to clip multiple animals regularly.

Designed for durability, heavy duty clippers are favoured for their ability to cut through particularly coarse or difficult hair without wavering under pressure. The clippers will tend to incorporate more powerful motors designed for regular heavy work, making them well suited to a multitude of applications and coat types.

However, due to the power and drive needed, some models can be heavier to handle and manoeuvre, so its important to consider balance in the hand and compare weights.
Clippers in this category take conventional, full-width blades which need to be tensioned to set the cutting pressure.

Unfortunately there is no one size fits all blade available that will cut to everyone’s liking, and blades need to be acquired according to the finish you desire on your horse or pony. 

A Series Blades

A2SS/AC (Super Surgical) Blade
Designed to leave almost no hair on the horse.

The A2S/AC Surgical blade clips very close to the skin of the animal to aid in surgical preparation, and is suitable for use with the Star, Liberty, Legend and Fusion clippers.

Covercote Blade
Ideal for clipping areas on the animal that need extra protection such as the legs, as the blade leaves a longer coat where necessary. The Covercote blade is a popular choice for horses transitioning between the seasons as it cuts off the excess length but still maintains the appearance of a smart coat.
This blade is also recommended for horses with Cushings disease as it allows the long hair to be clipped but means the remaining hair can be brushed over to protect the skin, giving a fine look finish.

A2H/AC (Lifter) Blade 13mm
Ideal for when a coat needs tidying but a good covering of hair is required. When a coat needs tidying but still requires a good covering of hair, the Lister A2H/AC Lifter blade makes it easy to clip carefully. This blade fits to all other A series blades and is suitable for use with the Star, Liberty Lithium but for heavy duty clippers such as the Legend and Fusion, we recommend using Lister blades with a metal socket only.

Fusion Clipper Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) 

Should I use metal socket or plastic socket blades with the Fusion Clipper? 

We recommend only metal socket blades with the Fusion Clipper. Due to the power of the clipper, a blade with a metal socket is more suitable due to its greater durability. INTERNAL NOTE: Lack of oil on a blade with a non-metal driving socket can result in damage or breakage of the plastic driving lug. 

How do I clean the clipper and blades?

Wipe the handle with a soft cloth and use the brush provided to brush away any loose hair or dirt from the blades and clipper head. remove the blades for cleaning. NOTE: Care should be taken not to lose the tension spring. Ensure to oil the blades before putting into storage for protection and ensure to always store in a clean, dry, safe place. It is also particularly important to keep the plug and cable clean, dry and in good working order at all times. 

How do I fit the blades?

Disconnect from the power source. Turn the clipper upside-down and carefully fit the top blade to the clipper head. The crank roller must be located in the socket of the top blade. Fit the bottom blade, ensuring the two holes are fitting over the two pegs. Insert the tension bolt through the central hole. Fit the tension spring over the tension bolt and screw the tension nut down tight. Set the tension. For further information, refer to the Fusion Clipper instruction manual. 

How do I set the tension?

Screw the tension nut down by hand until it stops. Using the marker on the tension nut as a guide, slacken the tension nut back off by 1 ½ turns to set the tension. Note: excessive tension will blunt the and overheat the blades, while insufficient tension will reduce cutting performance and lead to clogged blades. 

How often should I oil the blades? 
We recommend oiling the blades every 5-10 minutes when in use, using R15 Clipper Oil. Before oiling, brush any excess hair from the blades and clipper. Ensure to oil the following; between the cutter points, the surfaces between the clipper head and top blade, the cutter blade guide channel and heel of the cutter blade from both sides or via the two holes, the crank shaft and roller via the central hole. Frequent oiling will help keep the blades running smoothly by reducing friction and heat. For further information, refer to the Fusion Clipper instruction manual. 

Which brand of oil should I use with the Fusion Clipper? 
Only use R15 oil with the Fusion Clipper. Other lubricants may cause irritation to the animals skin or may damage the appliance or blades. 

How often should the Fusion Clipper be serviced? 
We recommend servicing the Fusion Clipper annually. 

How do I remove and clean the filter? 
Pull up on the tab on the filter to remove it. 
Hold it up to the light to check the wire mesh for blockages. Wipe or brush away any dirt and debris, ensuring the filter is clean and dry before refitting. 

How do I remove the clipper head? 

1. To unscrew the clipper head, first unscrew the tension nut and remove with the spring, then turn the clipper up-side down and remove the tension bolt and the blades. 
2. Unscrew and remove the Clipper Head Front Screw, using the washer provided.
3. Unscrew the 2 short M4 Screws (16mm) and 2 long M4 Screws (35mm), ensuring to remove the 2 spring washers if lose, otherwise check they remain in the holes.
4. Remove the clipper head cover and gearbox/bottom cover, before unscrewing the 2 black (14mm) screws that are located near the gear.
5. Remove the bearing carrier and take off the top cover. 

How do I refit the clipper head? 

1. Turn the clipper upside-down and fit the top cover to the handle. Fit in the bearing carrier, then place the 2 black (14mm) screws in the screw holes in the bearing carrier and screw down until resistance is felt. 
    
2. Fit the gearbox/bottom cover over the bearing carrier, then place the long M4 Screws (35mm) into the screw holes in the gearbox/bottom cover and screw down until resistance is felt, ensuring that the 2 spring washers are reinserted or present in the holes. 
    
3. Fit the clipper head. 
    
4. Screw in the short M4 Screws (16mm) to the holes in the clipper head. 
    
5. Turn the clipper over and screw in the Clipper Head Front Screw, tightening securely with the washer provided. 
    
6. Turn the clipper upside-down again and carefully fit the top blade to the clipper head, ensuring the crank roller is located in the socket of the blade. 
    
7. Fit the bottom blade, ensuring the 2 holes are fitted over the 2 pegs. 
    
8. Insert the tension bolt through the central hole in the blade and fit the tension spring over the tension bolt and screw the tension nut down tight until it stops. 
    
9. Then using the mark on the tension nut as a guide, slacken the tension nut back off by 1½ turns to set the tension. 

The blades on my Fusion Clipper have jammed and the overload protection fuse has activated. What should I do? 

The appliance includes an overload protection fuse that will switch the motor off if the blades become jammed. If the overload protection fuse has activated, check the blades and coat / fleece for blockages. Clear any obstructions and replace any damaged blades. 
To reset the overload protection fuse, slide the switch backwards past the off position 
Switch position 0 = Off 
Switch position I = Normal speed 
Switch position II = Fast speed 
Switch position = Reset 

Where is the reset button on my Fusion Clipper? 

The reset button is located on the front of the clipper, integrated with the on/off switch. To reset the overload protection fuse, slide the switch backwards, past the off position.
