A bit favoured by Show jumpers looking for the ideal compromise between a bit and a hackamore to dissipate pressure around different areas of the horses mouth and face. The Bomber Happy Tongue Hybrid is a combination of a mechanical hackamore and American Gag, giving it the combined effects of the hackamore and the bit. Hence, ideal for strong sensitive mouthed horses as it spreads pressure evenly on the nose, mouth, and the poll so that there is not too much pressure concentrated in one area alone but the combined effect brings better compliance and relaxation from the horse.
The bit has a certain amount of poll pressure due to the action of the hackamore which is useful in lowering the head especially useful for horses with a high head carriage, and the happy tongue mouth piece acts on the bars and lips of the horses mouth bringing tongue relief in addition.
The reins can be connected at many positions to allow for varying degrees of leverage. The amount of movement in the mouthpiece can be altered by moving the stopper above the mouthpiece.
The nose piece is padded for the horses comfort and in addition, the nylon curb strap is included. Care must be taken, as with any mechanical hackamore, that the noseband sits above the nasal bone.
The Happy Tongue is a solid mouthpiece. It is curved and ported and as a result, gives tongue relief.
The Happy Tongue would be a good place to start if your horse is:
- Shaking its head
- Sticking its tongue out
- Sucking its tongue back and as a result, making an intermittent coughing noise
- Trying to put its tongue over the bit
- Going behind the bit to avoid the contact
- Snatching the reins forward and down
